THE BELIEVER’S BACKBONE
These last days, only the toughened Christians have a fighting chance because everyone will get to that point where all seems hopeless; where everyone can see our failures, humanness and frailty. However, being weak-spirited is not a Christ-like option (Matt. 4:1-11), and will not succeed against the devil’s attacks (Dan. 7:25).
Therefore, in these times, where do we run? It should be, to the God of mercy and grace not the devil’s throne of pride and shame. God wants to show His strength through that broken spirit (Ps. 51:16-19); that spirit which isn’t reliant on the arm-of-flesh/pride. The spirit which is fully trusting in God; fit for producing sweet fragrance (SOS. 1:3) and fruits (John 12:24).
In addition, we must ‘remain focused on Jesus, endure with patience and despise the shame that may result’ (Heb. 12:1-3); knowing that there is a promising end that will outshine the present affliction (2 Cor. 4:17-18).
It is through these moments that God’s work of perfection is done in us, we learn to see through His eyes and trust Him more (2 Timothy 1:12).
